Stages of a painting

At first I called this painting Wise Words.  I knew that wasn’t going to be my title, but having something to start with is helpful. I had a few flowers in the garden but I wasn’t sure where I was going.  I was thinking about how when I paint it is like I am looking at an altar. The rhythm of painting is soothing. Could I land on hope, even when the world feels so chaotic?

As I painted yesterday I began to wonder if my way of being while painting is in keeping with confucius?

I wasn’t sure I knew what confucianism was.  I read a bit and found that ‘Confucianism rests upon the belief that human beings are fundamentally good, and teachable, improvable, and perfectible through personal and communal endeavor, especially self cultivation and self-creation. Confucian thought focuses on the cultivation of virtue in a morally organised world.’

That makes sense to me.

I settled on the title, ‘Tea with Confucius’.

This is the 3rd day of painting. Most of the decisions are made but there is quite a bit more to do until I find the sweet spot in harmony..

And then I think I have found the harmony.
